Not just your ordinary market…
One of the many exciting events that will be happening during Fiesta is the Temporary Market. It’s an afternoon of eclectic, performative, sculptural and edible (!!!) installation of art works on Newgate Market. The artists will be working with and talking to the regular Newgate Market traders in order to collect stories and share memories.
The Temporary Market will be brought to us by OUI Performance, which is an independent Contemporary Arts Organisation, based in York and run by the very lovely and very talented Nathan Walker and Victoria Gray. They’ll be working with lots of different people to bring this event to life, including artists from the Art Bloc, and York’s Contemporary Art Collective. So make sure you get down to Newgate Market (it’s between Parliament Street and the Shambles) at some point during the day to check out this very exciting, unique, and quite simply intriguing local talent. We certainly will!
